Magnemite

Magnemite: This Pokemon was originally created as a police robot. Its single eye is an advanced camera capable of recording visible light and infrared. It was given the ability to levitate in order to give better chase to criminals, its electric shock enabled to subdue arrested persons. The Pokemon was originally implanted with a tracking device, and the magnets allowed it to cling to getaway vehicles to make chases easier, or reclaim stolen Poke Balls. While the magnets look like ordinary horseshoes, they are actually electromagnets, so the magnetic pull could be controlled. What appear to be screws are actually nodes for picking up electrical charges, to keep itself going.

Magnemite was set to become the next big thing in law enforcement. Unfortunately, it was made too intelligent - as it learned to self-replicate, too many came about too fast and they got loose before final adjustments could be made. Only the prototype (which no one is sure what happened to it) is implanted with the tracking device - it could not seem to replicate this part of itself. Some are still used for law enforcement, but as the original maker died an untimely death prior to writing out detailed descriptions on how to program them, they must be treated like regular Pokemon - their trust must be gained. This is part of what makes Magnemite most remarkable: it was given the ability to have emotions and personality, even if its ability to express such is limited.

**Artist's Note: So I thought I would try painting a realistic-looking Magnemite. I am not used to drawing inorganic forms, but Magnemite is nothing but inorganic shapes... but I proceeded anyway. I decided since there wasn't much to go on for Magnemite, I would conceptualize it. I thought the eye could be a camera... so I took that idea and ran with it.**
